Season 5 Class descriptions
Dancing Tots Ages 2.5-3
In this class, basic ballet steps will be taught, along with creative movement and body recognition. This class stresses repetition for muscle strength and memory by combining dance games and fun music. This class is the perfect introduction for a mom free dance class.
Pre Ballet/Tap Ages 3-5
This class builds upon learning basic ballet steps. Rhythmic skills, creative concepts, short dance sequences combined with hopping, skipping and galloping make this class the perfect fit for your active dancer. In tap, students will develop an understanding of rhythm and musical skills through a variety of center and across the floor exercises and choreographed combinations.
Debut Levels Ages 6-8
Ballet * Jazz * Tap
This class is an introduction of the basic styles of Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, and Ballet. Each class will enhance the dancer's knowledge of steps and combinations. Dancers will find their own artistry, through play and performance practice, students will take their technical knowledge and explore their own movement, musicality and creative expression.
Primary Levels Ages 7-10
Ballet 1 * Jazz * Lyrical * Tap
Primary Leveled classes focus on developing coordination, strength, and flexibility, articulation of feet, motor and cognitive skills. Each class offers exercises that are developmentally appropriate to the age of the student. The goal of each class is to facilitate growth of the student's inspiration to dance, move, be creative, while instilling appropriate postures and movement patterns that will be layered upon as they progress in their other dance classes.
Ballet 2 Ages 10-13
Ballet 3 Ages 10-15
Ballet 4/Ballet 5/Ballet 6 & Pointe Instructor Approval Only
Dancers will perform various stretches to increase flexibility and an understanding of how their muscles coordinate to help them dance. They will spend time at the ballet barre and in the center of the room learning the positions of the arms and feet, as well as, learning basic ballet steps. Dancers will also be taught to travel from one corner of the room to the next by way of basic turns, jumps, and leaps. Dancers will act out various stories like in Creative Movement classes. Dancers will also learn to count music and dance on the correct musical counts. By the end of the season, they will know the names of several ballet steps and positions and will maintain proper ballet etiquette in class. As each level increase the combinations and skills will also increase. Pointe will be introduced in each class but is not required. For students who choose not to do Pointe work they will remain in ballet flats for that portion of the class
Contemporary
Primary Ages 10-16
Advanced Instructor Approval Only
Contemporary dance expands on the technique and movements learned in lyrical class. Growing over popularity in the last decade the contemporary style aims to push dancers and their movement in new directions. Experimentation and improvisation often play a large part in creating contemporary movement. Understanding how your body moves through space, shifting of weight and momentum, floor work and overall body strength and control all play a critical role in this style of dance. This class encourages dancers to feel their movement from within and share that feeling thru performance.
Hip Hop
Debut Ages 4-7
Intermediate Ages 8-13
Advanced Ages 13 and up
Dancers develop musicality, creativity, listening skills and coordination. This non-stop, action-packed class includes hip hop, basic break dancing, and dance games that will have your kid moving to the beat! Don’t be intimidated...these classes are great for boys and girls who want to be challenged, learn various styles of hip hop.
Jazz
Intermediate Ages 10-15
Advanced Ages 12-18
Elite Instructor Approval Only
This class introduces an advanced intermediate level of jazz movements and terminology. Students must have a solid dance foundation as this class moves at a very fast pace. Focus on style and technique, including longer and more difficult combinations requiring more control, incorporating bigger leaps (seconds, switch, scissor, etc.), more turns (triple pirouettes, a la seconde turns, etc.) and higher kicks. Each class will consist of a warm-up, across the floor, proper jazz technique, and combinations. Dancers must be enrolled in a ballet class while enrolled in these levels.
Lyrical
Intermediate Ages 10-15
Advanced Ages 12-18

Lyrical is a combination of light tumbling, ballet technique, jazz technique, as well as some modern styles of dance. In this lyrical class the students will explore their ability to interpret a song's mood as well as feel. In the lyrical class a student will work on their flexibility, light tumbling (cartwheels, toe ups, etc), their balance, as well as turning in different ways from traditional jazz/ballet turns. This class is the perfect opportunity for a student to learn self expression, as there may be times where they are allowed to improvise their own choreography as well as interpret their music in their own unique way. Dancers must also be enrolled in a ballet class to take this level.
Tap
Intermediate Ages 10-15
Advanced Ages 12-18
Elite Instructor Approval Only
These classes move at a steady, productive pace, this course prioritizes the acoustic rather than the aesthetic, and simultaneously trains the ear while developing the feet as percussive instruments. Look forward to weekly rhythm scales, rudiments, progressions and combinations that stress syncopation and precisely timed weight shifts. Much emphasis will be placed on maximizing efficiency of movement, relaxation of the joints, and weight placement. Tappers will explore various arrangements of musical patterning and phrasing, as well as the use of dynamics, tone and shading to expand individual artistry and performance. Recognize yourself as a percussive musical artist, gain greater clarity and articulation of your sounds, and take your rhythmic expression to the next level!
Adult Ballet Ages 18 and up
It’s never too late to learn Ballet! This class is open to all adults who want to dance! Some adults may have years of ballet experience while others have none. Adults are always welcome to “pick and choose” what they want to do during class and are not required to wear a leotard or tights. Class time will be spent performing barre, center, and corner work with combinations adjusted for different levels of ability as needed. Dancers will learn waltz, tango, and various adagio combinations. Stretching to increase flexibility will be incorporated throughout the class. The level of the class and exercises will depend on the students. This is a no stress class, just for a fun workout for you to stay in shape and feel great.
Adult Tap Ages 18 and up
This class is perfect for beginner to intermediate dancers. Class will consist of a warm up for the feet and ankles, center work and across the floor. The level of the class and exercises will depend on the students. This is a no stress class, just for a fun workout for you to stay in shape and feel great.
Cardio Tap Ages 15-Adult
Tap dancing burns between 200-700 calories an hour. It tones your calves, thighs, butt, and arms. It also improves your balance, and it is almost impossible not to smile when you start making sounds with your feet. Tap dancing is a great workout for your memory as you strive to remember the sequence of steps and patterns in the routines. This class is for all ages and skill levels.
